Making Democracy Work

Creating a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page

How to create pages in a Question and Answer format.

Should I create one FAQ page, or create a set of pages on different topics?

It depends on the length and whether topics or of a general or specific nature. Ask yourself when you get tired of reading a single Web page. Most people don't want to scroll too much. Also, if people want to know about registering to vote, they may not want to scan questions about writing your congressional representative.

Will a list of section headings be included in the header area of a FAQ page?

Yes, section headings will be included in the header area of a FAQ page in the same way they are on a generic (regular) page. Section heading names should be short, but descriptive. In general, consider using them if you have more than 2 sections in a page.

Does it matter whether the "Q:" and "A:" notation uses capital letters?

No. You can also use "q:" and "a:".

Can I use introductory paragraphs before a list of Q&As?

Yes. Just enter them in the large section text box before the first "Q:".

I entered in a question and answer, but it doesn't look the same on the preview page. What could be wrong?

Check very carefully whether you have entered the correct "q:" and "a:" notation. Once I mistyped and entered "q.".
